Banana Guide

Bananas from Hannah's Farm, Calauan, Laguna

Updated June 20265 min read

Our bananas grow on the same red-clay slopes in Calauan, Laguna where Manny and Imelda Abelardo have farmed for years — no shortcuts, no synthetic push, just patience and good soil. We grow them naturally, harvest at the right time, and bring them straight to your table as fresh hands, bulk boxes, or any of the value-added products we make so nothing from the grove ever goes to waste. If you are looking to shop our bananas or simply want to learn about the many types of bananas in the Philippines, you have come to the right place.

Naturally Grown on the Farm

We do not hold any organic certification — getting certified is a long and costly process, and we would rather be honest with you than wave a label we have not earned. What we can tell you is that our bananas are grown the way this family has always farmed: without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers, watered by rain and gravity-fed irrigation, and tended by hand from planting to harvest. The Laguna soil does most of the work; we just take care not to ruin it.

Fresh Bananas — By the Hand, Box, or Pallet

We sell fresh bananas by the hand for home buyers and by the box or pallet for resellers, canteens, and food businesses. Varieties change with the season — we will always tell you what is ripe and ready rather than push something that has been sitting around. Delivery runs to Laguna province and Metro Manila; wholesale and regular supply arrangements are welcome, and we are happy to talk terms directly.

Value-Added Products — Tree to Table, Nothing Wasted

A banana farm produces more fruit than any market can absorb on any given week, so we learned early to make something useful from every bunch. From our grove you will find banana chips (thin-sliced and lightly sweetened), chewy dried banana strips, banana butter spread for your morning toast, naturally fermented banana vinegar aged on the farm, and green banana flour that is gluten-free and works beautifully in baking. Every product starts with bananas we grew ourselves — there is no outside sourcing and no mystery ingredient list.

Part of a Whole-Farm Story

Bananas share the land here with avocado trees and jackfruit, and we think of the whole farm as one living system rather than separate crops. The same philosophy that keeps our soil healthy goes into every product we make and every event we host on the property. If you have ever wanted to walk through a working grove, watch a harvest, or join a farm-to-table gathering in Laguna, keep an eye on our events calendar — we are gradually opening the farm to visitors who want to see where their food actually comes from.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are your bananas organic?

We grow our bananas naturally — no synthetic pesticides, no chemical fertilisers — but we are not certified organic. Organic certification in the Philippines is a formal, multi-year process that we have not gone through. We would rather be upfront about that than misuse the word. What we can promise is that we farm the way this family has always farmed: carefully, with respect for the soil, and without shortcuts that would compromise the fruit or the land.

Do you deliver fresh bananas to Metro Manila?

Yes. We run deliveries from Calauan, Laguna to Metro Manila and cover most of Laguna province as well. Delivery schedules depend on harvest timing and order volume, so the best way to arrange a delivery is to message us directly. For recurring wholesale orders we can usually set up a regular run that works for both sides.

What banana varieties do you grow?

Our grove carries a mix of varieties that suit the Calauan climate and soil, and availability shifts with the season. We will always tell you what is ready at harvest time rather than guess weeks in advance. If you want a deeper look at the range of Philippine banana varieties and how they differ in flavour, texture, and use, our guide to the types of bananas in the Philippines is a good place to start.

Can I visit the farm to buy directly?

We are in Calauan, Laguna, and we do welcome farm visits — though we ask that you get in touch ahead of time so we can make sure someone is around to receive you properly. We are also building out a small events space on the property for farm tours, harvest days, and farm-to-table gatherings, so if you want to be the first to know when those open up, follow us and watch the events calendar on the website.
